Leigh Dabney Shanklin, born on July 12, 1958 in Durham, NC, with her twin sister, Sandy Virginia, who pre-deceased her. A 1976 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Flossmoor, IL, she graduated with an economics degree from Syracuse University in 1980. She was employed by Zurich North American Specialities in Special Casualty as a senior underwriting specialist, in Chicago. In 2000, she completed a two year certification in Clinical Trials Management at the Graham School at the University of Chicago, graduating with honors Fluent in French, she traveled widely in Europe and the Far East. She frequently traveled to Paris, her second home. Among her many interests, musical theater on Cape Cod was one of her favorites. She was devoted to a series of dogs, adopted from a no-kill shelter, Orphans of the Storm in Deerfield, IL. She is survived by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Douglas and Virginia Shanklin of Memphis and Falmouth, MA; her sister Elizabeth of Los Angeles; her brother John Carter Shanklin of San Francisco; her sister Eleanor Shanklin Truex; brother-in-law, Gregory Truex; her niece Laura Truex and two nephews, Robert and Johnathan Truex of Homewood, IL. Memorial service was at 3 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Flossmoor Community Church. Her ashes will be scattered in the Seine River in Paris at a later date.
